Singapore: MAS risk warning on digital payment token services
Hex Technologies Pte. Ltd. is licensed by MAS as a Major Payment Institution (PS20200664) and must give its customers the warning below. It is reproduced as printed on the live Singapore page.
Hex Technologies Pte. Ltd., live Singapore page, read 6 October 2026Risk warning on Digital Payment Token services
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) requires us to provide this risk warning to you as a customer of a digital payment token (DPT) service provider.
Before you (a) pay Hex Technologies Pte. Ltd. any money or DPT, or (b) pay any third party any money or DPT under an arrangement by Hex Technologies Pte. Ltd., you should be aware of the following:
- Hex Technologies Pte. Ltd. is licensed by MAS to provide DPT services. Please note that this does not mean you will be able to recover all the money or DPTs you paid to Hex Technologies Pte. Ltd. or any other third party referred to above, if Hex Technologies Pte. Ltd.’s or the third party’s business fails.
- You should also be aware that a trust account or segregated account maintained by Hex Technologies Pte. Ltd. for your benefit may not fully protect your money or DPTs from loss if Hex Technologies Pte. Ltd.’s business fails.
- You should be aware that MAS does not supervise or regulate Hex Technologies Pte. Ltd. for the provision of unregulated services. This includes any service of trading digital payment token derivatives such as futures.
- You should not transact in the DPT if you are not familiar with this DPT. This includes how the DPT is created, and how the DPT you intend to transact is transferred or held by Hex Technologies Pte. Ltd.
- You should be aware that the value of DPTs may fluctuate greatly. You should buy DPTs only if you are prepared to accept the risk of losing all of the money you put into such tokens. You should be aware that Hex Technologies Pte. Ltd., as part of its licence to provide DPT services, may offer services related to DPTs which are promoted as having a stable value, commonly known as “stablecoin”.
The disclosures that licensed payment service providers owe their customers are set by MAS Notice PSN08 on Disclosures and Communications, last revised on 2 April 2024.
Hong Kong: status statement
The live trust centre lists a trust company registration and a Trust or Company Service Provider (TCSP) licence in Hong Kong. It prints no licence number and does not name the company that holds them. The status in plain terms: TCSP licence (AML), not an SFC-licensed platform. A TCSP licence is an anti-money-laundering licence. It is not a licence to operate a virtual asset trading platform.
Risks by service
Each service adds risks of its own to the market risk above. The licence behind each one is listed under licences and what each one covers.
Custody
A custodian can suffer an operational failure, a cyber attack or insolvency. Segregated accounts reduce these risks but may not fully protect your assets if the custodian fails. The loss or theft of a private key can be permanent, because a blockchain transaction cannot be reversed. How Hex Trust addresses these risks is described on the page about institutional crypto custody and its safeguards.
OTC trading and fiat ramping
A quote can move before you accept it, and the market can move against you after the trade. You are exposed to your counterparty until both sides have settled. Settlement that is typically T+0 to T+2 business days can take longer when a bank or a network is delayed. See the OTC desk and fiat ramping page.
Staking
A validator that breaks the rules of its network can be slashed: on Ethereum, in the words of ethereum.org's staking guide, “part of the validator's stake is destroyed and the validator is forcibly removed from the network”. Staked assets can be locked while they unbond, a liquid staking token can trade below the asset it stands for, and a protocol can change its rules. Rewards are variable and not guaranteed. The live staking page reports “no slashing events across all protocols since inception”; that is a past record, not a promise. See institutional staking.
Lending and wrapped tokens
A loan against digital assets carries collateral risk: if the collateral falls in value, you may have to add more or repay early. A wrapped token depends on its issuer, on the custodian of the backing asset and on the smart contract that issues it, and a fault in any of the three can cause a loss. These services, like Wealth Management (Aura) and DPT lending or staking, are not offered in Singapore or Dubai.
No financial protection scheme
No investor compensation scheme and no deposit guarantee scheme covers digital assets held, traded or staked through Hex Trust. The custodian's insurance is not such a scheme. The live insurance framework gives a “maximum coverage of US$25,000,000 across all clients”, which is one shared limit, and it covers named events only. The security page sets out the insurance limit and scope.
Not investment advice
This page is for information only. It is not investment, legal or tax advice, and it does not take account of your circumstances. Take independent professional advice before you use a service, and read the website terms of use. If something goes wrong, the complaints page explains how to complain to each Hex Trust company. For the rules behind these warnings, see the guide to custody regulation in Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong.
